  2. Citations and references

The latest available version of the APA style should be used for referencing. However, some particular suggestions are outlined below.

Citations
a. References should be cited by the last name of author(s) and the year of publication in parentheses. In case you quote or paraphrase from any source, include the page number(s) at the end of the citation. Some examples are given below:

          • Authoritarian parenting style results in worse children’s educational outcome (Majumder, 2015).
          • Maccoby and Martin (1983) extended the typology of parenting style.
          • Parenting style is defined as the emotional climate created by parents within which socialization of children occurs (Darling & Steinberg, 1993, p. 448).
          • Demandingness, in the words of Baumrind (1991, pp. 61-62), ‘‘refers to the claims parents make on children to become integrated into the family whole, by their maturity demands, supervision, disciplinary efforts and willingness to confront the child who disobeys’’.

b. Where appropriate, several references may be placed within a single pair of parentheses, each reference being separated by a semi-colon.
          • Example: The findings of this study are consistent with some previous studies (see Baumrind, 1966; Kim & Rohner, 2002).

c. Subsequent citations of any given source should be made in exactly the same way as initially; terms like ‘ibid.’ ‘op.cit.’ etc. must be avoided.

d. To refer to different publications of an author for the same year, different lower-case letters (a, b, c etc.) may be used with the year.
          • Example: MSL can identify the parameters even in the absence of any exclusion parameter (Deb & Trivedi, 2006a). This is also claimed by Deb and Trivedi (2006b).

e. To refer to work done by more than two authors, use the last name of the first author followed by ‘et al.’.
          • Example: Study-related habit formation is directly impacted by parenting style (Aunola et al., 2000).
All the citations must be added in the reference section with full details as per the format.
