Guidelines for Contributors

Preparation of the Manuscript:

  1. Manuscripts in triplicate, neatly typed in double space on one side of the paper should be submitted to Executive Editor, The Chittagong University Journal of Social Sciences. In addition, a CD with contents of the article must be sent. If the article needs revision in the light of comments of the referees, the author may be asked to submit a revised version of the CD.
  2. Each typed page must have a margin of at least one inch on all sides.
  3. As far as possible, the article should conform to the following layout:
  4. a) Introduction, stating the nature of the problems of issues:
  5. b) Research questions and their justification in the context of the work already done;
  6. c) Methodological issues;
  7. d) Findings and policy implications, if applicable;
  8. e) Limitations, if any, of data, methods or findings; f) Conclusion.
  9. The first page of the text should bear the title of the article but no name(s) of author(s) or any other form of identification. Names, address and professional affiliations should be mentioned separately on the cover page along with the little of the article.
  10. The article should not normally have more than 5,000 words, including notes, references and illustrations.
  11. Article must have an abstract not exceeding 200 words.
  12. Tables, maps and graphs should appear in the text in their numerical order. Notes should be numbered in the same way and should be placed at the end of the text sequentially under the tittle ‘notes’.

References in text:

  1. All references and sources of data are to be identified at the appropriate point in the text by the last name of author and the year of publication with page references Placed in parentheses (e.g. Lipset 1964:15)
  2. Where appropriate, several references may be placed within a single pair of Parentheses, each references being separated by a semi-colon (e.g.moore1960: Weber1921).
  3. Subsequent citations of any given source should be made in exactly the same way as initially; devices like ‘ibid’ ‘op.cit’ etc. must be avoided.
  4. Torefer to different publications of an author for the same year, different lowercase Letters (a.b.c. etc.) may be used (e-g. Taylor 1966a. Taylor 1966)
  5. To refer to work done by several authors: ‘et al’ should be used after the name of the first author (e.g. Rahim A.et al). Institutional Authored ship should be identified by abbreviation (e.g.UN.1981; IMF; 1966)

Format of References:

(1) Bibliographical references should be arranged in an alphabetical order after the last name of author followed by the year of publication, title of the article, name of journal/book, place of publication, and publisher’s name. The title of the journal or the book should be italicized as illustrated below:-

Notes for Author:

Author should not submit more then one manuscript as a single author of two joint manuscripts with similar co-authors in the same volume.
